Did you know that Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches hiss by exhaling air through breathing holes in it's back? This cool cockroach can only be found in Madagascar! Madagascar is part of the continent Africa and it has a population of about 22.92 million. It's capital city is Antananarivo. People in this country belong to about 20 ethnic groups, mainly from Africa and Indonesia. The official languages of this country are Malagasy, English, and French. The people of Madagascar wear European clothing. They also wear American T-Shirts and jeans. Plus, They wear unique straw hats that they wear on birthdays, holidays, etc. They eat a lot of rice, otherwise their food is quite dull. Kids start grade school at age 6, and end grade school at age 11. They start middle school at age 12 and they end middle at age 15. They start high school at age 16 and end high school at age 18. Only about a fifth of people here attend high school. The University of Antananarivo is the main college here. Some adults her cannot read and write! People here live in rainforests and on farmlands. Madagascar is the 5th biggest island on Earth. Here, in winter it is hot and rainy, and in summer it is cool and dry. Examples of it's natural resources are chromite, coal, bauxite, rare earth elements, salt, tar sands, mica, and semi-precious stones. Crops and livestock are very popular here, and it's manufactured goods are knitted clothing. This country imports machinery petroleum, and it exports produce and livestock. The best known animal in this country is the lemur. Lemurs are important because they don't live anywhere else. They are one of the only animals here that still live in their natural habitat. The head of the country is the president, which appoints a prime minister. There is also a council of ministers. The aloe plant, a plant with healing powers, is native to this country!
